My braces experience - To be continue updating until I finish my 2 years plan.
Hey peeps,
Its time for my sharing again. As I mentioned in my Facebook account, I'm going to write about my whole braces journey once I have the courage to do it. And I have found the courage that I needed hence, on 21 August 2020, I have made my first appointment at T.Low Dental Clinic. Coincidentally they are running a braces promotion and I think it fits my budget, so I decided to go with them. I also have enquired a few other dental clinics and found T.Low Dental having a reasonable price with many good reviews.
August 2020
On the first visit, after registration, they offered a free consultation which includes:
- Basic mouth x-ray
- Basic mouth x-ray
- Doctor consultation
If you decided to fix your braces with them, a deposit of RM300 is required and they will proceed to take a full mouth x-ray, all upper and lower moulds also all intraoral and extraoral photos. After all of that, they will give you your next appointment date :)
After the consultation with Dr Bernard, I choose to go with traditional metal braces. It is the cheapest option and from what Dr Bernard said, it actually doesn't have much different from self-litigating braces (which is slightly expensive of course). The traditional metal braces cost me RM4800, after minus the deposit of RM300, I have another RM4500 to be paid as an instalment on each visit.
September 2020
My braces have been fixed on 9th September 2020 and for fixing, I need to pay RM1000 for the second payment, it will follow with RM150 for each monthly visit. Firstly, Dr Bernard will do teeth scaling and polishing and then proceed to fix the braces onto my teeth.
To my surprised, I didn't feel any pain at all. Kinda regret not fixing it earlier because I'm so afraid of the pain that comes with it. turn out I didn't feel any 😂. Or maybe I was so fortunate to choose the right doctor and the right place 😋. Finished fixing the braces, they provide me with dental wax that I can put onto any braces that I felt uncomfortable with to avoid ulcer. As for the hygiene care, they supply me with mouth wash and on top of that, I have bought braces toothbrush and additional dental wax. Better keep that ulcer away 😃
Dr Bernard did warn me that I might feel a bit discomfort on the first night wearing braces because of the teeth will start pulling in. But I only feel slight discomfort on day 2. I only eat porridge especially on the first 2 days because I don't want any braces to fall off. They just newly glued to the teeth. it needs to be stable first.
Today is the 6 days of me wearing braces, I still eating porridge and nestum, sometimes bread with hot mushroom soup. I bought a lot... I mean a lot of stock for instant porridge and nestum LOL. So I need to finish all that.
So this is how I look like with braces:
My next appointment will be on 23rd September just a quick check-up on the braces, whether there is any braces fall off or any discomfort. Honestly, I didn't feel or haven't yet to feel any pain that I couldn't handle. Just a slight discomfort especially whenever I'm trying to chew or bite.
And for my case, Dr Bernard actually did some temporary bite raising, a quick and painless procedure to prevent the upper and lower brackets/braces touch each other and also to allow the proper positioning of the brackets during early treatment. So technically, I can't chew properly because my upper and lower teeth not really touching each other when I close my mouth. Not sure how long is this temporary bite raising going to be and all I can do now is to be patient.
Signing off for now
